"The time, care and compassion you give, often discreetly and without words, and without any expectation or recognition, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," Her Royal Highness stated in a message before the carol service. A Steady Comeback The Princess of Wales is continuing her own measured re-emergence to the public eye following her health challenges and treatment, recently giving her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers". Music and Opportunity Guests arriving at the Abbey can listen to young musicians aided by the Future Talent organisation, set up with the help of the Duchess of Kent to increase availability of musical tuition. An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who plays the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been supported by the trust, with grants helping towards equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "awesome" to be performing at the evening's event. "Pursuing music is often costly," the musician remarked. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to cultivate their performance abilities. Generations Gathering Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who plays the euphonium, will also be at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many distinguished guests," she said. Attending the service will be representatives of different generations. That will encompass Saphia Turner, aged nine, recipient of a young hero award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to generate funds for local food charities. Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment The Abbey has been adorned with specially made wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett assisting in their creation. Among the musical performers will be Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a nautical singing ensemble, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "a dream come true."
