🔗 Share this article Norris Leads Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice The British driver has outscored his teammate at each of the past five grands prix. Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. The British racer, who took the championship lead from Piastri by just one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, outpaced the Australian by a mere 0.023s. Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before the sprint shootout due at 6:30 PM GMT. The Red Bull star, the other racer in the points battle, lying with a 36-point deficit Norris, finished in 17th position as his team opted for a different programme. His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to crash, albeit lightly, when he rotated at the fourth corner during the early running. Tsunoda spun out over the exit kerbs before sliding over the gravel trap, and was lucky to get away with just a minor contact of the wall. Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the conclusion of the session, spinning around through the fast downhill Mergulho corner leading to the final bend on to the main straight. Hamilton finished practice in 19th place, just behind teammate the Monegasque driver. Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber third fastest, over half a second behind the Australian's time. Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
