Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and introducing audiences to beloved characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys

In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
